How the learning works
Reviewing at the right moment
Every word gets its own rhythm. What goes well comes back later, what is hard comes back straight away. That is spaced repetition, the best researched way to make vocabulary stick.
Listen first, write later
Darija is above all a spoken language. Every word can be read aloud, and the Arabic script is always beside it — you can also switch it off for a child who does not read yet.
Short lessons
A lesson takes two to four minutes and mixes six kinds of exercise, so a child does not get stuck on one trick.
No punishment
Hearts can be switched off entirely. Reviewing never costs a heart. There are no adverts and no notifications pulling a child back in. The full course runs on a monthly subscription taken out by an adult, behind a small sum to solve, and cancelled with one tap in their own store account.
Privacy, briefly
- ✅ No account, no email address, no login.
- ✅ All progress stays in this device’s browser and goes nowhere.
- ✅ No adverts, no trackers, no third-party cookies.
- ✅ Pronunciation comes from the voice already on the device; no audio is sent anywhere.
- ⚠️ Speaking exercises use the browser’s speech recognition. In Chrome that means the recording goes to Google — switch speaking exercises off if you would rather not.
- ✅ If you buy the full course, the payment runs entirely through Apple or Google. We never see a card, an address or a name.
Clearing progress or taking it to another device is done in the settings.
Helping at home
- Ask about it. “Kifash kanqolo bread?” — let your child teach you something. Explaining is the best exercise there is.
- Really use one word a day. Say bslama on the way out, bsseha at the table.
- Call the family. Five sentences to jeddti beat twenty lessons.
- Allow variation. Every city has its own words. If grandma says it differently, grandma is right.
In the classroom
The app runs in any browser with no installation and no account — a chromebook included. Each device keeps its own progress. For a shared lesson the stories and the letter game work well on a whiteboard; the dictionary (304 words) doubles as a reference. The 17 units climb from A0 to A2.
Honest about the language:
Darija differs by region and by family, and it has no official spelling. We pick the form you hear most in Casablanca and Rabat, in the Arabic script as people type it in messages. Your device’s voice speaks Modern Standard Arabic — recognisable, but without a Moroccan accent. Listening to family remains the real work.
