Darijaforkids
English
Moroccan Arabic for children

At last, your children learn their Moroccan mother tongue — through play.

Darija is not learned from a textbook — it is learned from your grandmother, at the table, in the car, on the phone. But the conversation stalls: the child answers in English, the grandmother in Darija, and somewhere in between a language slips away. Darijaforkids gives your child the words back. Through play, two minutes a day, with a real Moroccan voice in their ears.

  • Two minutes a day. A language for life.
  • Grandma’s language disappears in one generation. Unless you start now.
  • From “salam” to haggling in the souk — in 17 units.

Half a minute, and you will know

This is the app itself: the path, a lesson, the Arabic script and the recordings. Not a drawing of what it might one day be — this is what you download.

Why it sticks

Everything sounds

Every word and every sentence can be heard — one tap for normal, two for slow.

Smart reviewing

Words come back exactly before you forget them, and hard ones more often.

Speak for yourself

Speaking exercises listen along, so you dare to say what you learn.

Arabic script

Every letter with its shapes at the start, the middle and the end — or leave it out.

Playing counts

Time race, memory and the letter game use the same words as your lessons.

Real conversations

Stories where you can tap any line for the translation.

Not a computer voice. A person.

Every language app hands the work to a speech engine. For Darija that is not possible: there is no Darija voice. Every synthesiser in the world is trained on Modern Standard Arabic and turns نتا into "natā" and جدتي into the grandmother of a textbook. So every word, every sentence and every letter in this app was recorded by a Moroccan voice — 432 recordings, one at a time.

432recordings, every one of them a human voice
304words, each in five kinds of exercise
100sentences, from a greeting to haggling
28letters, with their shape at the start, middle and end

From salam to the souq

17 units that climb from your first hello to haggling at the market and asking the way in the medina.

Questions

What exactly is Darija?

Darija is the Moroccan Arabic people speak at home and in the street. It is not what a Modern Standard Arabic textbook teaches: it has its own words from Amazigh, French and Spanish, shorter sounds and its own rhythm. Someone who speaks Darija talks with family in Morocco — someone who only learns Standard Arabic often cannot.

What age is this for?

From about seven on their own, younger together with a parent. The lessons are short and work without reading too: you can switch off the Arabic script and just listen and choose. For teenagers the path continues to A2, with longer sentences and conversations.

Which languages does the app speak?

Dutch, French, German, Spanish, Italian and English. The app proposes your device’s language by itself — a phone in France starts in French, one in Flanders in Dutch — and you can change it any time in the settings. Every translation, explanation and story follows.

Do I need to read Arabic?

No. Every word is there in Latin letters too, with the numbers Moroccans themselves use in messages (3 = ع, 7 = ح, 9 = ق). And if you do want the script, there is a module for it with every letter and its shapes.

Does it cost anything?

The alphabet and the first five units are free and stay free — enough to read the Arabic script, introduce yourself and count to a hundred. The whole course comes with a subscription: € 59.88 for a full year (that is € 4.99 a month) or € 6.99 a month, VAT included and with the first days free. You subscribe inside the app through the App Store or Google Play, and you cancel in the same place whenever you like. No adverts and no account: your progress stays yours.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Everything is inside the app itself — the lessons, the recordings and the letters. Once downloaded it works without internet: handy in the car, on a plane or in Morocco itself.

Which Darija do you teach?

The form you hear most in Casablanca and Rabat, because it is understood everywhere. Does your family say it differently? Then your family is right: Darija differs from city to city and from house to house, and that is not a mistake.

Start tonight

The first lesson takes two minutes. After it your child can say hello, thank you and goodbye in Darija. The alphabet and the first five units are free — no account, no ads, nothing to fill in.
